Panama suspends diplomatic ties with self-proclaimed ‘sadr’
In line with the international law, Panama has cut all ties with the self-proclaimed Polisario entity, SADR, the country’s foreign ministry said in a statement.
“The Republic of Panama, prioritizing national interests and adhering to the core principles of its foreign policy, reaffirms its commitment to the objectives and values that underpin multilateralism. The Republic reiterates its willingness to continue supporting the efforts of the Secretary-General and the international community within the framework of the United Nations, aiming for a peaceful, just, and lasting solution acceptable to all parties,” the statement declared.
Panama “reiterates its commitment to dialogue and multilateral cooperation, in full compliance with a constructive foreign policy aimed at strengthening international peace and security,” the statement added.
Panama is thus the latest in a series of Latin American countries that retracted recognition of the Polisario.
Last week, the parliament of Paraguay urged the government to back Morocco’s autonomy plan.
Ecuador has also cut ties with the Polisario and the Brazilian ruling party urged the government to back the autonomy plan.
