Morocco: Chakib Benmoussa named High Commissioner for Planning in replacement of Lahlimi
King Mohammed VI has named on Friday Chakib Benmoussa, Minister of National Education since October 2021, as High Commissioner for Planning in replacement of Ahmed Lahlimi Alami, the Royal Office said in a statement.
The Sovereign also received Ahmed Lahlimi and decorated him with the Grand Cordon of Wissam Al Arch.
Lahlimi, a prominent figure of the Socialist Union of Popular forces (USFP), held the position of High Commissioner for Planning since October 2003. He also served as Minister of Social Economy, SMEs, and Handicrafts, in charge of General Government Affairs in the Youssoufi government (1998-2002).
Chakib Benmoussa had also held several responsibilities and senior positions. On October 7, 2021, the Sovereign appointed him Minister of National Education, Preschool, and Sports. Prior to this, he was tasked by the Sovereign on November 19, 2019, to head the Special Commission on the Development Model.
Chakib Benmoussa served as Minister of the Interior from 2006 to 2010. On February 21, 2011, he was appointed by King Mohammed VI as President of the Economic and Social Council, and then served as Morocco’s ambassador to France and Monaco since March 2013.
Chakib Benmoussa holds engineering degrees from L’ Ecole Polytechnique in Paris (1979) and L’Ecole Nationale des Ponts et Chaussées in Paris (1981), as well as a Master of Science from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) in the USA (1983) and a diploma in project management from the ISCAE (Institut Supérieur de Commerce et d’Administration des Entreprises) in 1986.
