King Mohammed VI appoints new ambassadors to several countries, heads of a number of agencies

King Mohammed VI has appointed new ambassadors to several countries as well as a number of officials to senior positions, during a ministers’ council held Friday in Rabat, the Spokesman for the Royal Palace said in a statement.

The diplomats’ appointments were made on the proposal of Minister of Foreign Affairs Nasser Bourita, while the other appointments were proposed b Head of Government Aziz Akhannouch.

The list of the appointed diplomats to Africa includes Othman El Ferdaous, former Minister of Culture and former secretary of state to the Minister of Industry, who will serve as Morocco’s new ambassador to Côte d’Ivoire; Abdelkader El Jamoussi, former Consul General in New York, who will be the new envoy to Cameroon; Mustapha El Alami Fellousse, who will be Morocco’s ambassador to the Central African Republic, Mrs Najoua El Berrak, who will be Chief of mission in the Republic of Congo, and Mohammed Iboumraten who will be Morocco’s ambassador in Niger.

Moroccan politician Ahmed Rida Chami will again represent Morocco as the new ambassador to the European Union, a position he had held from 2016 to 2018.

The list of ambassadors appointed during the Ministers’ Council also includes Mrs Fatiha Ayadi (Denmark); Omar Amghar (Serbia); Redouane Adghoghi (Bulgaria); Majid Halim (Malaysia); Redouane Houssaini (Indonesia); Mrs Boutaina El Kerdoudi (Bangladesh); and Younes Dirhoussi (Saint Lucia).

As to the appointments to senior officials, the King named Nouaman Al Aissami director of the Solidarity Fund against catastrophic events.

The fund created as part of Morocco’s efforts to respond to natural disasters, such as last year’s devastating earthquake and recent flooding incidents, seeks to bolster the country’s response and support to disaster-affected areas.

The monarch also appointed Mustapha Aboumaarouf as president of the High Health Authority, Samir Ahid as director of the Moroccan Agency for Medicines and Health products, and Kamal Doghmi as director of the Moroccan Agency for Blood and its Derivatives.

On the proposal of the head of government and on the initiative of the minister of culture, the monarch also appointed Latifa Moftaqir as director of the Moroccan Archives and Rahal Boubrik as director of the Royal Institute for Research on the History of Morocco.

The king also appointed Said Laith as director general of the High Atlas Development Agency and Wafaa Jemali as managing director of the National Social Support Agency.

During the Ministers’ Council, the Monarch also appointed a number of Walis and Governors to the Central and Territorial Administration.
