Before the 2025 African Football Cup of Nations, Morocco hosts Futsal CAN April 11-21

Morocco, which has been picked to host the 2025 African football Cup of Nations (CAN), is hosting this April the 7th edition of the Futsal Africa Cup of Nations.

Morocco will be hosting the tournament April 11-21 for the second successive time in capital city Rabat, where fever is in full swing ahead of the opening ceremony of the 7th edition.

The hosts have won the last two titles of the quadrennial competition which has two debutants this year, Namibia and Mauritania.

The 2024 Futsal CAN tournament will bring together eight countries: Morocco, Ghana, Mauritania, Libya, Zambia, Namibia, Angola, and Egypt. This new continental competition promises to be another triumph for the Kingdom, which continues to affirm its leadership in the sports arena and its commitment to the development of African football.

Actually, Morocco has accumulated a rich experience and undeniable expertise in organizing major sporting events. The 2018 CHAN, the 2020 Futsal CAN in Laayoune, the recent women’s CAN, the upcoming CAN U23, the coming five editions of the U17 women’s CAN, the 2025 CAN, and the 2030 World Cup, as well as several editions of the Club World Cup, including the latest one.

All this success is undoubtedly the result of the vision of King Mohammed VI, who attaches particular importance to the development of sports and the promotion of fair play and solidarity values. The Sovereign spares no effort to make Morocco a privileged host for major sports events and an essential player in the African sports landscape.

The refurbished Salle Prince Moulay Abdellah and Salle IBN Yassine are the two venues for the exciting fast-paced eight nations indoor football competition.

Hosts and defending champions Morocco headline Group A alongside 2020 third placed Angola, Zambia and former runners-up Ghana who will be making their second tournament appearance.

The first day of the tournament features two matches that will oppose Ghana to Zambia, and Morocco to Angola.

Record winners Egypt are the top seed in Group B which also has the two debutants Namibia and Mauritania and former champions Libya.

Egypt will open their quest for a record-extending fourth title with a difficult fixture against 2008 champions Libya on Friday, April 12.

Newcomers Mauritania and Namibia will play in the late fixture of the day.

The CAF Futsal CAN also serves as the qualification tournament for the FIFA Futsal World Cup.

So, the stakes of this tournament are higher than ever as the three podium finishers are guaranteed a place at the FIFA Futsal World Cup set to take place in Uzbekistan scheduled between September 14 and October 6 this year.
