Tunisia to probe nationwide power blackout
A court in Tunisia announced Wednesday September 20 investigations into the causes of a power blackout that plunged the entire country into darkness for several hours.
Several regions of the North African country went dark for four hours on the night from Tuesday to Wednesday.
The Interior Minister Kamal Feki headed to the main power plant in Rades city to investigate the reasons behind the blackout. The State-run electricity company STEG said the power cut was due to a breakdown of the plant. Hichem Anane, the CEO of the company added that the failure was caused by high humidity levels that jumped to 90%.
On Wednesday September 20, Amor Yahyaoui the prosecutor of Ben Arous Court of First Instance announced launch of a probe into the blackout. The National Guard at Aouina will carry out the investigations to identify the causes of the power incident.
