Tunisia clocks 5 million tourists this year, hitting record

As many as 5 million tourists have so far visited Tunisia this year, Tourism Minister Mohamed Moez Belhassine announced Saturday August 5, with the figures representing 70 per cent increase compared to same period in 2022.

The visits generated TND3.3 million ($1 billion) as of July, accounting for 55 per cent increase compared to last year period figures, Belhassine added, as he embarked on an unannounced tour of hotels in the city of Monastir.

Lotfi Mani, Head of the promotion at Tunisia’s Tourism office confirmed the figures in an interview with a private radio station.

The figures translate a recovery of Tunisia’s tourism industry after the pandemic which dealt a blow to the sector, Tunisia’s second biggest job provider and Gross Domestic Product (GDP) contributor.
