Francophone Games: Impressive participation of Morocco which tops the ranking with 58 medals including 23 gold

Morocco shone with its impressive participation in the 9th edition of the Francophone Games, gleaning 58 medals won, including 23 gold.

by Moroccan sportsmen and women during competitions which took place from July 28 to August 6 in Kinshasa, Congo.

This exceptional performance in the event which took place from July 28 to August 6 in Kinshasa, Congo, propelled Morocco to the top of the rankings, a historic achievement for Morocco in this sporting and cultural event, in which Moroccan sportsmen won 23 gold medals, 16 silver medals and 19 bronze medals.

This is a new record for Morocco, which had never won so many medals at the Francophone Games. These medals are divided between different disciplines, including 42 in athletics, 8 in judo, 5 in road cycling, 2 in wrestling and 1 in juggling with a ball.

This triumph exceeds the previous record set in 2017 in Côte d’Ivoire, where Morocco gleaned 42 medals, including 13 gold, 14 silver and 15 bronze.
A notable feature of Moroccan participation is that the majority of medals, 34 out of 58 (including 18 gold), were won by female athletes, illustrating the important role of women in the national sports landscape.

These remarkable results, which place Morocco ahead of nations renowned for their sporting excellence, such as France and Romania, find an echo in the latest Royal Speech delivered on Throne Day.

In this speech commemorating the 24th anniversary of his enthronement King Mohammed VI had highlighted the values of pride, seriousness and commitment that characterize Moroccan youth, including young sportsmen and sportswomen.
