16 die in Senegal as boats used by migrants capsizes

16 people on board a boat used for illegal migration died in the night of Sunday to Monday July 24, after their vessel capsized off the Senegalese capital Dakar.
“It seems to be migrants,” Samba Kandji, a district deputy mayor, told AFP on Monday.
The local fire service, reports say, was alerted at dawn after 14 dead corpses were discovered on the beach. An officer of the Gendarmerie told state-run news agency (APS) there was an unknown number of survivors who managed to flee. Two others have been arrested in connection with the tragedy.
President Mack Sall on Twitter presented his condolences for the losses.
The incident is the second so far this month. Early this month, the ministry of Interior indicated that 14 people died after a boat carrying illegal migrants heading to the Spanish autonomous Canary Islands capsized off the coasts of the coastal city of Saint-Louis.
