Egypt takes delivery of second Germany-built MEKO A-200 frigate

The Egyptian Armed Forces received Monday a MEKO A-200 frigate, a second frigate built by Germany, several months after taking delivery of the first out of 4 ordered.
The military vessel dubbed Al-Qahhar by the Egyptian Navy was built by German shipbuilder Thyssenkrupp Marine Systems (TKMS) at SBN Shipyard.
Commander of the Egyptian Navy Ashraf Atwa presided over the ceremony held in the German port city of Bremerhaven, Ahram Online reports.
Egypt, according to Atwa, aims to strengthen security and stability in naval operational areas and economic waters as well as to address the challenges and risks in the region. The Arab country received the first vessel in October.
The MEKO A-200 frigate is 121 meters in length and has a range of 6,800 nautical miles. The ship reportedly has a displacement of 3,931 tons and can reach a maximum speed of 28 knots.
The German company previously built four submarines for Egypt.
