TunisAir beefs up fleet with new passenger jet
Tunisia’s national carrier acquired Monday a new aircraft, Airbus A320-200, as part of the airline’s plans to revamp its fleet.
The acquisition is the result of a lease contract. The jet was formerly used by Bahrain’s carrier Gulf Air.
In a statement, the carrier also announced the future acquisition of four other aircrafts under the long-term leasing formula.
“The aircrafts will be acquired for a maximum period of six years. TUNISAIR today took delivery of the 1st Airbus A320 TS-ITA,” it added. The airline in December acquired one A320neo. The aircraft is the fourth the airline is receiving after December 2021, February and November 2022.
Incumbent CEO of the state-run company Khaled Chelly, was appointed following the sacking, in February 2021, of Olfa Hamdi who headed the carrier for less than two months. Chelly was propelled to the top job to improve the finances of the company and turn it to profit.
