Mysterious disappearance of two Moroccan Cyclists in Burkina Faso

Two Moroccan cycling adventurers remain missing after entering Burkina Faso on their way to Niger, raising many questions on their whereabouts and sparking fears over their fate.

The Moroccan Embassy in Ouagadougou is working with local authorities to solve the mystery of the two Moroccan nationals, Abderrahmane Serhani and Driss Fatihi, who vanished between Burkina Faso and Niger.

Abderrahmane Serhani, 65, is a retired teacher, while Driss Fatihi is a 37-year-old shopkeeper. The two men left Morocco on January 19. They crossed the Southern Moroccan border point El Guerguerat, heading to Mauritania.

In one of their last Facebook posts dated March 29, the cyclists said they were heading to Burkina Faso. Islamist militants are expanding their footprint in this African country.
