Sahara: Bahrain reaffirms steadfast backing to Morocco’s territorial integrity

Bahrain has reiterated its unwavering support for the Moroccanness of the Sahara and commended the efforts made by the North African Kingdom for achieving a realistic political solution to this regional issue, on the basis of UN Security Council resolutions.

The supportive stand comes in a joint statement released Thursday in Manama following the 5th Moroccan-Bahraini Higher Committee’s meeting, convened under the co-chairmanship of Moroccan and Bahraini Foreign Ministers Nasser Bourita and Abdulatif bin Rashid Al Zayani.

Bahrain has also reaffirmed its full support for the autonomy plan offered by Morocco for the Sahara under its sovereignty and within the frame of the unity of the Kingdom’s national territory, stressing that the proposed Moroccan solution is in line with international law, the resolutions of the UN Security Council and the General Assembly.

The Arab Gulf state hailed, on this occasion, the royal leadership in Africa, and highlighted the key role of King Mohammed VI in advancing sustainable development, the consolidation of peace and stability across the African continent.
For its part, Morocco thanked the Gulf State for opening a Consulate in the Moroccan Saharan city of Laayoune, a move confirming the legitimate rights of Morocco and showing the strong ties binding the two brotherly countries.

In their joint statement, Morocco and Bahrain voiced their determination to enhance further their cooperation in all sectors including industry, tourism, agriculture, health, higher education, air transport, sports and technologies.

They agreed to strengthen their relations in the political & diplomatic fields and coordinate stands in regional and international organizations to serve the shared interests of the two brotherly countries and peoples.

They also stressed the importance of developing economic, commercial and investment relations, and invited Moroccan and Bahraini businessmen to avail the investment opportunities offered in both countries.
