FFHS Awards 2022: Morocco’s Regragui World 3rd best national coach
Morocco’s coach Walid Regragui, who became the first African and Arab technical executive to lead his team to the World Cup semi-finals, has been ranked third best national coach in the world by the International Federation of Football History and Statistics (IFFHS).
The title of best national coach in the world, announced on the website of the IFFHS, is awarded to the coach of the Argentina team, Lionel Scaloni, winner of the World Cup 2022. He succeeds the coach of Italy, Roberto Mancini.
Regragui, who took over the reins of the Moroccan selection in replacement of Vahid Halilhodzic only three months before the Qatar 2022 World Cup, has managed to build a competitive team that he guided to the 2nd round of the World Cup in Qatar as leader of Group F, ahead of strong teams like Croatia and Belgium, before eliminating Spain, then Portugal to land in the semi-finals.
The 47-year-old former Moroccan international Walid Regragui had won the Moroccan championship and the African Champions League title last year with Wydad Casablanca. He has other coaching experiences with FUS of Rabat and Al Duhail of Qatar.
