African Development Bank highlights expansion of mandatory health insurance in Morocco
The number of beneficiaries of the mandatory health insurance in Morocco hit a new record at 23 million as the country forges ahead with its social reform plans, the African Development Bank said.
The number grew from just 7.8 million beneficiaries and from 20,000 daily reimbursement requests to 60,000 daily requests currently, the Bank said.
It noted however that the 170 social security agencies treating demands was not enough and that more work should be done to bring health insurance service in rural areas.
The government was spending 2.5 billion dollars annually to pay the insurance contribution of poor households.
