DRC launches voters’ registration process for general elections

The independent electoral commission, CENI, of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) kicked started the voters’ registration process for the general elections slated for next year.

“We are now on the home stretch to the 2023 elections,” said Denis Kadima, the CENI head after he inscribed himself on the electoral rolls Saturday.

“I invite the population to do as I did, I did not wait for the second day, the more we will advance in the process, the more people there will be and the less we will be able to do it easily,” he added.

The process will take 65 days and will take place in Kinshasa, Kongo Central, Kwango, Kwilu, Mai – Ndombe, Mongala, Équateur, Tshuapa, North – Ubangi and South – Ubangi provinces.

The process will also expand to other provinces next year.

DRC President Félix Tshisekedi also got his voter’s card Saturday after he registered in the town of Mbandaka.

The CENI expects 50 million Congolese to register for the various elections including the presidential poll on December 20 next year.
