Morocco maintains aid for worst-hit sectors by pandemic until June

A Moroccan economic monitoring committee (CVE) decided to maintain aid to workers in sectors most hit by the pandemic until June.

This financial aid benefits 102,000 workers in sectors handicapped by the Covid-19 outbreak, notably tourism, catering, events and other services whose normal activity halted due to the restrictive measures to contain the virus.

These workers will continue to receive family allowances and to benefit from health insurance as part of measures funded by a special fund to respond to the pandemic.

The outbreak of a new wave of British strain of the coronavirus in Europe has diminished hope for a quick recovery of the tourism sector.

Last year, the sector, which accounts for 7% of Morocco’s GDP, saw revenues fall by 53.8% to 36.3 billion dirhams.
