Egypt eyes production, exportation of Chinese Covid-19 vaccine

Egypt will soon sign with China an agreement to manufacture and export Sinovac Chinese vaccine shots against COVID-19, the Egyptian government said in a statement on Monday.

Health minister Hala Zayed said a deal will be signed with China’s Sinovac company, the manufacturer of Chinese Covid-19 vaccine, CoronaVac.

Vacsera, a Holding company in Giza will produce the Covid-19 shots. Egypt will also export the vaccine across the African continent, the statement said.

Chinese ambassador to Cairo Liao Li Chang confirmed that Beijing is poised to strengthen cooperation with Egypt in manufacturing vaccines to combat the pandemic.

Aside from the Sinovac, China is reportedly working on 17 vaccines which are in the process of clinical research to produce more novel coronavirus shots.

Egypt started in January its immunization campaign using Sinopharm vaccine, another Chinese vaccine made by state-owned Sinopharm.

The Arab country is preparing for a third wave of the Corona virus. Authorities early this week reported 643 new cases of infection, bringing the infection toll to 196,061.
