Drug Trafficking: Four arrested, including DGST Officer in Tangier

The Directorate General of Territorial Surveillance (DGST) announced that the National Brigade of Judicial Police arrested this Sunday four individuals, including a police officer reporting to the DGST Regional Directorate in Tangier.

An official press release, the first ever in the history of the domestic intelligence agency, indicates that the four individuals were arrested for their alleged connections with international networks of drugs and psychotropic products trafficking and breach of professional secrecy, complicity, corruption and hiding of wanted persons.

According to the DGST press release,  the initial investigation revealed that the three suspects were active in international drug trafficking networks and were connected to the cocaine shipment recently seized at Tanger-Med port.

The suspects benefited from the complicity of the arrested DGST police officer who covered their criminal activities. He disclosed data covered by professional secrecy, accepted bribes and failed to fulfill his job, the press release said.

A police investigation is underway to capture the suspects’ accomplices and identify the network’s national and international ramifications.

This operation is part of the sustained efforts deployed by the DGST, in coordination with the National Security services, to combat international drug trafficking networks and cross-border organized crime.
