Morocco offers construction permits to 51,000 quake-hit households

Morocco offered construction permits to 51,031 families, that is 87% of overall applications, as the country races the clock to address the aftermath of September 7, 2023 earthquake.

As part of the first batch of aid, 56,067 households received 20,000 MAD in aid for partially or totally demolished houses in the September 7 quake, the head of the government’s office said in a statement.

Morocco has promised to offer 140,000 MAD for totally demolished homes and 80,000 MAD for partly destroyed ones following the quake that killed nearly 3000 people.

So far, 6927 families received the second batch of aid worth in total 122 million dirhams, while 872 families received the third phase of reconstruction aid worth 11 million dirhams.

Quake-stricken families are receiving 2500 dirhams monthly for a year.

Morocco said it would spend $12 billion on reconstruction and the upgrade of infrastructure in the quake-hit areas.
