Moroccan elite units participate in drills in Qatar
Units of the Moroccan Special Forces are expected in Qatar to take part in the joint “Impregnable Guard” exercise, scheduled this March 8-27, as part of Qatar’s preparations for the 2022 World Cup.
In addition to the Moroccan army elite units, Special Forces of Jordan, Turkey, Pakistan, Oman, the United States, France and NATO will take part in the drills, the Qatari Armed Forces said in a press release, relayed by Far-Morocco website, an online news platform focusing on Moroccan Royal Armed Forces (FAR) activities as well as on armaments and defense topics.
“The majority of the Impregnable Guard 2020 exercise will take place in the interior regions of the country, including Al Janoub stadium, Hamad International Airport and the Qatar Railways,” the press release said.
The exercise consists of scenarios and training that help prepare and train the participating forces to respond to any cross-border security threat. It is part of preparations for the 2022 world cup.
During a visit a high-level Qatari delegation paid to Rabat in mid-February, Morocco had expressed readiness to provide Qatar with all human and logistical resources to help the Gulf country organize the 2022 World Cup tournament successfully.
This was voiced at a series of working sessions the visiting delegation held with the minister of the Interior, the Commander of the Royal Gendarmerie, and the Director General of national Security & Director general of Territorial Surveillance.
The working sessions were devoted to examining cooperation and sharing of expertise between the two countries in matters of securing major sporting events.
