Mohammed VI Cup: Raja Casablanca Cruises to Semi-finals, Grabs 5 Million DH Bonus
Raja Casablanca Sunday booked their ticket to the semi-finals of the Arab Clubs Cup, also known as Mohammed VI Cup, despite a defeat at home against MC Alger 0-1.
The team, led by Jamal Sellami, passed the quarter finals phase thanks to aggregate score 2-2, with two goals scored in the away match played early last month.
Sunday at Mohammed V complex in Casablanca, Samy Frioui gave the visitor the lead in 42 minutes from a penalty kick.
Raja globally dominated the fixture through possession, 65 per cent, but failed to create goal chances.
With the win, the legendary Moroccan side advanced to the semi-finals. It will face Ismaily of Egypt who secured their spot in the semi-finale after they saw off Ittihad Alexandria 1-0 in aggregate last month.
After their qualification, Raja will receive a bonus of around 5 million dirhams, from the Arab Union football association ( AFUB) and if they manage to eliminate Al Ismaily in the semi-finals, they will walk away with an even bigger bonus, 21 million dirhams, while a coronation would bring 60 million to the Greens.
The first leg against Al Ismaily is played on February 16 in Egypt and the return is scheduled for March 15 at the Mohammed V complex in Casablanca. The final will be played at the Moulay Abdellah complex in Rabat on April 18.
Raja is the second Moroccan team still in the campaign along with OC Safi, which will lock horns with Al-Ittihad Club of Saudi Arabia.
Both teams drew 1-1 during the first leg match played in Jeddah. The second leg match in Morocco is slated on Feb. 15.
