Comoros Islands Opens Consulate General in Laayoune, another Hard Blow to Polisario
The Union of the Comoros opened on Wednesday a Consulate General in Morocco’s southern city of Laayoune, dealing a hard blow to the Polisario separatist group, supported by Algeria.
The diplomatic representation was opened during an official ceremony attended by Foreign Minister Nasser Bourita, his Comorian peer Mohamed El-Amine Soue and several senior personalities.
Last week, the Republic of Gambia announced its intention to open soon a consulate in the city of Dakhla, the pearl of Southern Morocco.
Several other African countries had already opened or announced their intention to open a diplomatic representation in Morocco’s southern provinces, gateway for trade, business and investment in Africa.
Morocco, 2nd major investor in African, has put Africa at the heart of its foreign policy. Since his enthronement in July 1999, King Mohammed VI has made over 50 visits to African countries, crowned with the signing of more than 1,000 cooperation agreements in various sectors including agriculture, fisheries, training, health, investment, water, infrastructure, roads, housing…
