Morocco, world’s fifth tomato producer

Morocco was ranked the fifth largest tomato producer preceded by Iran, Spain, the Netherlands and Mexico.

France was the first destination of Morocco’s tomatoes with 368 million kilograms, followed by Russia and Spain, said the EU statistics agency Eurostat.

In 2018, Morocco produced 569 million kilograms of tomatoes, representing 6.72% of global production worth €582 million.

Agricultural output grew by 60 percent since the launch of the Green Morocco Plan, jumping from 79 billion dirhams in 2008 to 125 billion in 2018.
