Libya’s Central Bank defends $361m oil revenue figure, welcomes audit

Libya’s Central Bank has maintained that it received $361 million in oil revenues between October 1 and 14, while welcoming independent audits to verify the figures.

The Central Bank of Libya said the amount reflected funds actually deposited into its accounts and matched records held by the Government of National Unity’s Ministry of Finance. It urged the ministry to disclose any contradictory figures and offered to provide documents to oversight bodies, including the Attorney General’s Office.

The clarification followed an announcement by the National Oil Corporation that more than $1.23 billion had been transferred to the sovereign account at the Libyan Foreign Bank as of October 13.

The corporation said the central bank’s $361 million figure represented the balance transferred after deductions for letters of credit covering fuel imports. The Central bank stressed the need to distinguish between total oil revenues generated and funds deposited into its accounts, saying this would strengthen transparency and public confidence.
