Ooredoo Algeria boss expulsed for planning workers’ sacking

The Algerian President Wednesday ordered the deportation of telecommunication company Ooredoo Algeria CEO after he reportedly planned to sack hundreds of workers.

Nickolai Beckers, a German national, was taken from his office to the airport by some officers of the national security directorate, DGSN, local media Annahar reported.

President  Abdelmadjid Tebboun, according to the media, ordered his expulsion after he received a letter from the union of the Qatari company workers who said the German telecommunication expert was planning to sack around 900 workers, though the company was doing and making profit.

The company later in the day issued a statement refusing to make comments on the reports, saying it was gathering information on the matter.

Ooredoo is subsidiary of Doha-based Ooredoo QSC, an international telecommunication company led by Sheikh Abdulla bin Mohammed bin Saud Al Thani.

Beckers, a graduate in Business Administration, was appointed in 2019 in replacement of Abdulatif Hamad Dafallah, a Sudanese national.
