Egypt has resumed electricity exports to Libya after the Libyan government paid about $100 million in outstanding bills accumulated since 2023. The initial supply has been restored at a capacity of 70 megawatts, following an agreement between the two countries to settle the remaining $41 million debt by the end of 2026.
The resumption of power exports came shortly after Libya experienced a nationwide blackout caused by failures at several power generation units and major transmission lines, leading to the loss of about 1,350 megawatts of electricity supply.
Libya’s power grid has faced repeated instability in recent weeks, with several regions experiencing prolonged outages due to technical failures and disruptions affecting electricity generation and transmission infrastructure.
