Morocco could reach 26 mln tourists target ahead of schedule- media

Morocco could reach its official tourism target of 26 million visitors by 2030 two years ahead of schedule, as stronger-than-expected growth renders current projections outdated, business daily Medias24 reported.

The argument is based on a reassessment of the assumptions underpinning Morocco’s tourism roadmap, which analysts now say no longer reflect the sector’s performance.

Recent data show visitor arrivals and tourism revenues growing at a faster pace than originally forecast, with annual increases of around 22%, well above initial expectations, according to the report.

Morocco already recorded 19.8 million tourists in 2025, providing a higher starting point than anticipated when the strategy was designed.

From that base, industry estimates cited by Medias24 suggest that moderate annual growth of about 15% would be sufficient to reach the 26‑million target by 2028, effectively advancing the timeline by two years.

The report frames this as a mathematical consequence of current trends rather than an optimistic scenario, noting that the sector’s trajectory over the past three years has been consistently stronger than planned.

Medias24 attributes the acceleration to a set of structural drivers put in place since 2021, including the expansion of air connectivity, increased marketing spending and improvements in the tourism offering. These factors, described as policy-driven rather than cyclical, are seen as supporting continued growth.

Authorities and industry stakeholders are already considering revising Morocco’s tourism ambitions upward, the media said.

Preparatory work on a new roadmap for 2027–2030 includes a more ambitious scenario targeting 30 million visitors and nearly 200 billion dirhams ($20 billion) in revenues by the end of the decade.
