Libya’s Prime Minister, Abdul Hamid Dbeibah, on Monday, May 4, announced the approval of a unified national budget—the first in over 13 years—during a cabinet meeting held in Qasr Al-Akhyar, east of Tripoli.
The breakthrough follows the “2+2 agreement” signed in April between representatives of the House of Representatives and the High Council of State, aimed at harmonizing public spending through the Central Bank.
Under the new budget, 73.36 billion Libyan dinars have been allocated for salaries, 10 billion for operational costs, and 44 billion for subsidies. The development marks a rare point of consensus between Libya’s rival Administrations, divided since the 2011 assassination of Muammar Gaddafi, and is seen as a step towards fiscal unity and broader political stabilization.
