FIFA Confirms Morocco as Host of 77th Elective Congress in 2027

Morocco will host the 77th FIFA elective Congress in the capital Rabat on March 18, 2027, the global football body said, underlining the country’s growing role in the governance of world football.

The decision was taken at a meeting of the FIFA Council held on April 29 in Vancouver and chaired by FIFA president Gianni Infantino.

The congress is expected to bring together around 2,000 participants, representing FIFA’s 211 member associations.

The event is a key moment in FIFA’s institutional calendar, as delegates gather to take major decisions related to the organization’s leadership and strategic direction. It will be the second time Morocco hosts a FIFA Congress, after staging the assembly in Marrakech in 2005, making it the first African country to do so at the time.

Since then, several other African nations have followed suit, including South Africa in 2010, Mauritius in 2013 and Rwanda in 2023.

Morocco’s selection reflects what FIFA officials have described as the country’s proven capacity to organize large-scale international sporting events, supported by modern infrastructure and institutional stability.

Rabat is also home to FIFA’s African regional headquarters, inaugurated in recent years as part of the organization’s efforts to strengthen its presence on the continent.
