Morocco Reiterates before AU-PSC Constant Solidarity with Mali

Morocco reiterated this Tuesday its active and constant solidarity with Mali before the African Union’s Peace and Security Council, and called for strengthened support for the West African country’s efforts.

Speaking during an AU-PSC meeting devoted to discussing the situation in Mali, the Moroccan delegation firmly condemned the terrorist and separatist attacks that targeted civilian and military areas in the country, and voiced compassion with and sincere condolences to the families of the victims and to the Malian people.

The delegation renewed the Kingdom’s full and unwavering solidarity with Mali, and reiterated its commitment to the country’s sovereignty, security, stability, and territorial integrity.

Morocco also renewed its support for the Malian national authorities in their efforts to counter terrorism and separatism.

The delegation stressed the need for a strengthened and coordinated regional approach, ensuring effective complementarity with national efforts.

It also called for the mobilization of relevant funds to ensure a rapid and appropriate response aligned with the needs of the situation, in close coordination with Malian authorities.
A Moroccan diplomatic source had strongly condemned the “terrorist and separatist” attacks that rocked last Saturday Bamako and other cities in Mali, targeting civilian and military areas.

In a statement posted on the website of the Moroccan foreign ministry, the diplomatic source had said Morocco follows “with great concern” these “cowardly and criminal acts” and expresses solidarity with Mali as well as full support for the sovereignty, security, stability and territorial integrity with this brotherly African country.

Morocco had then reaffirmed its constant standing with the Malian national authorities in their efforts to fight terrorism and separatism in Mali and the Sahel.
An Al-Qaeda-linked jihadist group teamed up with Tuareg rebels to launch coordinated attacks against the army across Mali over the past weekend.
