São Tomé and Príncipe has reiterated unwavering support for Morocco’s territorial integrity and Autonomy plan offered for the Sahara, saying this realistic plan has been endorsed by the UN Security Council in its resolution 2797.

During a meeting held Tuesday in Rabat with Moroccan peer Nasser Bourita, the Foreign minister of this African country Ilza Maria dos Santos Amado Vaz said the Moroccan Autonomy plan is the only credible and realistic solution for resolving the Sahara regional dispute.

She hailed the impressive socio-economic development accomplished in the Moroccan Southern Provinces thanks to the New Development Model, which promotes stability, security, and regional integration.

The FM of São Tomé & Príncipe praised the progress made in bilateral cooperation within the framework of the cooperation roadmap set for the 2025–2027 period.

This Roadmap helped expand cooperation to new priority sectors for São Tomé and Príncipe, notably education, training, multisectoral technical cooperation, and the promotion of economic exchanges and investments, as well as to increase economic promotion initiatives to develop partnership between the two countries in these priority areas.

The two officials voiced both countries’ shared determination to strengthen further bilateral relations with a view to building a model of intra-African cooperation, based on solidarity and “win-win” partnership.

During the meeting, the Foreign Minister of São Tomé & Príncipe lauded the royal initiatives benefiting the continent and expressed her admiration for the Monarch’s leadership and strong commitment to peace, stability, and development in Africa.

She also praised the King’s commendable contribution to the international Community’s efforts to promote peace, stability, and development on the African continent.

In this context, she reaffirmed her unwavering commitment to strengthening bilateral relations and promoting a strategic partnership based on mutual respect, solidarity, and alignment with the principles of international law.

Both ministers also welcomed the momentum generated within the framework of the Process of African Atlantic States (PAAS) to transform the African Atlantic region into a geostrategic framework offering significant opportunities for synergy and cooperation among its member countries in strategic areas such as the environment, food security, health, energy, logistics interconnectivity, resource pooling, and the exchange of experiences, enabling it to serve as a zone of co-emergence and stability.

They further acknowledged the strategic role of the PAAS in enshrining peace, stability, and prosperity in the Atlantic region.

Amado Vaz also commended the King’s Initiative to facilitate access to the Atlantic Ocean for Sahel countries as well as the Nigeria-Morocco African-Atlantic Gas Pipeline project, underscoring the strategic importance of these Initiatives which form part of Morocco’s active solidarity with African countries.
