EU reiterates its non-recognition of pseudo’Sadr’

The European Union (EU) reaffirmed on Friday that it does not recognize the so-called “sadr”, stressing that the presence of this entity at EU-African Union meetings does not affect its stance in any way.

The statement was made by the EU spokesperson for Foreign Affairs during the European Commission’s daily press briefing, at a time when certain separatist outlets were overhyping the upcoming EU-AU Summit, scheduled to take place on November 24-27 in Luanda, Angola.

Recalling that EU-AU summits and ministerial meetings are co-chaired and co-organized by both the EU and the AU, the spokesperson stated that the agreed arrangements provide that each party is responsible for inviting its own members, noting that invitations to African participants are issued by the African Union.

The EU spokesperson for Foreign Affairs stressed that “neither the European Union nor any of its Member States recognizes the so-called ‘sadr”, adding that its presence at meetings, whether at ministerial level or at the level of heads of state and government, “has no bearing whatsoever on this stance.”
