Morocco showcases digital transformation strategy to US tech leaders

Morocco’s digital transformation ambitions took center stage this week at George Washington University, where Ambassador Youssef Amrani outlined the kingdom’s comprehensive strategy to leverage technology for socioeconomic development and youth integration before American policymakers, academics, and technology sector leaders.

Speaking at a high-level gathering organized by the Center for Cyberdiplomacy and Leadership, Amrani emphasized that Morocco’s digital transformation represents a “sovereign and structural choice serving citizens,” rooted in King Mohammed VI’s vision for modernizing public services through data-driven governance and digital technologies. The event, themed “Cybersecurity, Artificial Intelligence, and Digital Government: Morocco’s Vision for Youth and the Future,” attracted Congress members, government officials, and emerging technology experts.

The Morocco Digital 2030 strategy aims to increase the digital economy’s GDP contribution to 6 percent while generating 240,000 qualified jobs by decade’s end, particularly targeting youth and women. This ambitious framework encompasses modernizing the national economy, enhancing public service efficiency, and creating substantial employment opportunities in emerging sectors.

Human capital development anchors this transformation, with Morocco targeting annual training of 100,000 young people in digital professions. The kingdom plans to deploy digital classrooms nationwide, including rural areas, reaching 30,000 students by 2026. “Our objective is clear: making digital technology a tool for equal opportunity and social cohesion,” Amrani stated, positioning education access as fundamental to inclusive growth.

The ambassador characterized US-Morocco digital cooperation as a partnership built on trust, stability, and shared values. He noted growing interest from American economic agencies in investing in Morocco’s cloud computing and data center infrastructure, leveraging the kingdom’s strategic location, political stability, and skilled workforce. Morocco’s digital leadership extends beyond internal reforms, becoming central to its multilateral and bilateral diplomatic initiatives, establishing the nation as an emerging technology hub bridging Africa, Europe, and global markets.
