Morocco’s BCIJ arrests Daesh-affiliated terror suspect

Morocco’s Central Bureau of Judicial Investigations (BCIJ) arrested in Settat on Sunday an individual suspected of allegiance to the extremist group Daesh. According to the BCIJ, the suspect had expressed interest in manufacturing explosives and suicide belts and was allegedly preparing attacks targeting public safety and order.

Investigators say the man was in contact with a North African Daesh leader operating abroad, who encouraged him to carry out a terrorist plot in Morocco. The leader allegedly provided him with manuals and publications detailing bomb-making techniques.

The preliminary investigation revealed the suspect had shared online propaganda praising terrorist operations by Daesh fighters and encouraging similar acts. Authorities believe he was actively planning subversive actions within the Kingdom.

Following his arrest, the suspect was placed in custody at BCIJ headquarters under the supervision of the prosecutor specializing in terrorism cases. Investigators aim to determine the full scope of his plans and identify any domestic or international associates.

This operation underscores Morocco’s ongoing counterterrorism vigilance amid persistent regional threats. The BCIJ reiterated that security services continue proactive operations to dismantle extremist cells and neutralize plots before they materialize.
