Libya deports group of Nigerian illegal migrants
The Anti-Illegal Migration Agency announced yesterday March 19 the deportation of a group of Nigerian nationals, following their violation of Libyan regulations. According to the Agency’s Deportation Office at Mitiga International Airport in Tripoli, the deportation was carried out after the completion of the necessary legal procedures for their removal from Libyan territory.
Although the office did not disclose the exact number of individuals deported, it confirmed that operations to remove illegal migrants from the country are ongoing. The Agency continues to enforce measures aimed at addressing illegal migration in line with national regulations.
Illegal migration poses a significant challenge to Africa’s progress, as it often results in the loss of valuable human capital, disrupts social cohesion, and drains resources that could otherwise be invested in sustainable development.
Many migrants, especially those fleeing conflict or economic hardship, take dangerous journeys in search of better opportunities, which exposes them to exploitation and risks, while simultaneously diverting attention and resources away from tackling the root causes of migration such as poverty, unemployment, and lack of education. This not only undermines the development potential of the countries they leave behind but also exacerbates regional instability, further hindering long-term growth and progress across the continent.
