UK debunks Algeria’s anti-Morocco propaganda

The UK has warned against all travel to all Algeria’s borders except with Morocco, in a travel advice that exposes the fragile security conditions in the country and debunks the military regime’s propaganda which has often taken aim to describe Morocco as the source of all threats.

On its travel advice official website, the UK government strictly warns its citizens against going to Algeria’s borders with Tunisia, Libya, Niger, Mali and Mauritania. The border with Morocco was described as the safest.

The UK government urged its citizens visiting the country to be vigilant, noting that “terrorist attacks have often focused on the Algerian state, but attacks could be indiscriminate and target foreigners. There is also a risk that lone actors target foreigners.”

UK citizens visiting Algeria could be subject to kidnappings in the south of the country, where the Algerian regime often claims to have defeated terrorist groups.

“The main terrorist threat is from Al-Qaida in the Islamic Maghreb (AQIM) and other regional Islamist groups including Al Murabitun and Daesh affiliates. There’s also a threat from individuals inspired by Daesh,” according to the UK government, which adds that “these groups have been active across the country and pose a threat throughout Algeria, including in Algiers and other major cities.”

The note shows that the safest border area to visit is Algeria’s border with Morocco.

This has discredited the Algerian regime which cut ties with Morocco and indulges in a demonizing campaign against the country on which it pins all its insecurity woes.

Instead of addressing its pressing security issues on its southern and eastern borders, where terrorist groups engage in all sorts of trafficking, Algeria fixates on its safest border with Morocco, where it has staffed the bulk of its armament.
