Senegal produces above target 16.9 mln barrels of oil in 2024

Senegal’s Sangomar offshore oil and gas field has produced 16.9 million barrels in 2024, surpassing its 11.7 million target, according to official figures.

Sangomar field, about 100km south of Dakar, achieved its first oil production in June 2024 and is expected to pump at least 100,000 barrels daily.

The project is a joint venture between Woodside (the operator) and Societé des Petroles du Sénégal (Petrosen). Woodside holds an 82% interest in the Sangomar exploitation area, while Petrosen holds 18%.

The development of the Sangomar field is expected to significantly contribute to Senegal’s economy, providing employment opportunities, supporting local communities, and enhancing the country’s energy security.

Senegal has also made significant strides in its gas sector, particularly with the Greater Tortue Ahmeyim (GTA) project, which it shares with Mauritania.
