Over 40 million people face food insecurity in West, Central Africa- WFP
Food insecurity is exacerbating in central and western Africa with 40 million people currently struggling to feed themselves, the World Food Programme (WFP) said.
The WFP said in a recent report food insecurity would surge to affect 53 million people by mid-next year.
The people suffering “emergency levels of hunger” rose to 3.4 million, that is a 70% increased since last summer, the report said.
The situation could further worsen as 10 million people face displacement due to the ongoing conflicts in the Sahe, Sudan and the floods that hit Chad and Nigeria, it said.
