EU reaffirms commitment to peace & stability in Libya by expanding EULINK project

The European Union has reaffirmed its commitment to supporting Libya’s security sector and advancing the implementation of the 2020 ceasefire agreement. EU Ambassador to Libya, Nicola Orlando, announced the launch of the second phase of the “EULINK” project, designed to strengthen security measures in ceasefire zones.

In a statement on X, Orlando emphasized the EU’s dedication to Libya’s security, noting the success of the project’s first phase, which contributed to the reopening of the coastal road in 2021. This initial phase provided essential infrastructure, joint training, and operational support to police forces from both western and eastern Libya.

The second phase will focus on further unifying institutions and boosting military capacities, particularly in border monitoring in southern Libya. The EULINK project has already made significant contributions, including the establishment of security gates, training centers, and courses on community policing and emergency response. It also supplied ambulances and first-aid equipment to strengthen regional emergency services.

The EU’s expanded efforts underscore its commitment to Libya’s long-term stability, fostering institutional cooperation between rival factions and supporting military and security collaboration across key cities like Tripoli, Misrata, and Benghazi.
