Niger gives French troops until Sep. 3 to withdraw

The junta in power in Niger, the National Council for the Safeguard of the Homeland (CNSP), has reportedly ordered French troops stationed in the West African country to complete the pullout until September 3.
The CNSP, on July 26, toppled west-backed President Mohamed Bazoum attracting the wrath of former colonial power France and regional bloc Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS).
Thousands of Nigeriens who support the coup have been demonstrating in front of the French embassy in Niger and military base to demand the withdrawal of French military personnel.
The European country has 1500 boots in the African country. Apart from demanding the pullout of the troops, Niger also last week called on French Ambassador Sylvain Itté to leave the country within 48 hours. Paris brushed aside the decision arguing that the CNSP has no authority to make such a decision as President Bazoum has not resigned yet.
