U.S pledges $380m in humanitarian aid for Africa

The United States will provide an additional $380 million in humanitarian assistance for Africa, top diplomat Antony Blinken announced Thursday. “With this funding, the United States has provided more than $4 billion in humanitarian assistance this fiscal year to respond to the needs of refugees, internally displaced persons, and people affected by conflict and crisis on the African continent,” Blinken said in a statement.

“The United States will continue to play a leading role in meeting humanitarian needs on the African continent and worldwide,” the Secretary of State added. The announcement comes nearly a week after the U.S. – Africa Business Summit, known as “Africa Prosper”, in Gaborone, in Botswana on July 11-14.

Washington at the Summit engaged with as many U.S. and African companies seeking to grow their business in Africa.
