Morocco & Qatar discuss FTA to bolster trade exchanges

Morocco and Qatar are negotiating a Free Trade Agreement (FTA) to strengthen further their economic cooperation, investments and trade exchanges which soared during the past four years to $207 million.

The second round of FTA talks was held lately in Doha. The Moroccan delegation was headed by Abdelouahed Rahal, Trade Director at the Ministry of Industry & Commerce, while the Qatari side was headed by Saleh Abdullah al-Mana, Director of the Department of International Cooperation at the Ministry of Commerce.

The first round of talks between two countries was held in Rabat last November. The FTA facilitates the flow of trade, investments, goods and services by eliminating all or most tariffs, quotas, subsidies, and prohibitions.

Morocco has already an FTA with USA, the European Union, African Union and several Arab countries. For its part, Qatar has an FTA with Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) which has sealed similar accords with the EU, Singapore and Arab countries.
