Number of consulates in Moroccan Sahara increases by inauguration of a consular representation of Cape Verde in Dakhla
The number of consulates set up in the Moroccan Sahara has increased this Wednesday to 27 by the inauguration of a consulate General of Cape Verde in Dakhla.
The consular representation was inaugurated at a ceremony co-chaired by Cape Verdean Foreign Minister, Rui Alberto De Figueiredo Soares, and his Moroccan peer Nasser Bourita.
Cape Verde’s move translate the African country’s firm support for Morocco’s sovereignty over its Sahara and for the territorial integrity of the Kingdom.
With this new consulate, the number of consular representations opened in the Southern Provinces has been increased to 27, 15 in Dakhla and 12 in Laayoune.
On Tuesday, Cape Verde opened its embassy in Rabat.
In a statement to journalists, Mr. Soares said the embassy opens up a new era in relations between the two countries and enables Cape Verde to benefit from Morocco’s successful experiences cumulated in various sectors.
Morocco and Cape Verde share a common will to foster peace and stability in the African continent. The two countries also look forward to developing a mutually beneficial economic partnership, a model of South-South cooperation.
