Morocco: Olive Output Expected to Soar by 21 % this Season
The production of olives is expected to increase this year by 21 pc compared to last year crop, said on Tuesday minister of agriculture Mohamed Sadiki at the Parliament’s upper house (Senate).
Morocco’s citrus out is also expected to go up by 14 pc this season compared to previous year harvest, added the minister, noting the agricultural value added recorded last year a 19 pc growth thanks to the cereal & fruit trees yields and a rise in animal production.
The projected good performance of the new agricultural season will support the recovery of the country’s economic growth which is expected to rebound by 5.5% in 2021 after suffering the negative impact of the coronavirus pandemic, underlined the minister.
Morocco’s cereal production has reached 103.2 million quintals, the 2nd ever best output recorded by the country’s agricultural sector, while the fruits and vegetables production has soared to record levels, said the minister.
The livestock are in good health thanks to medical monitoring and vaccination campaigns conducted by the National food safety agency and the efforts of private veterinary practitioners, added Mr. Sadiki.
Yet, Morocco’s agriculture is facing new challenges which will be addressed through the implementation of the new agricultural strategy which combines human development and sustainable farming in addition to strengthening of the country’s food sovereignty in accordance with the royal wise vision, said the minister.
