AfDB Lends Morocco € 114 Mln for Inclusive & Sustainable Farming

The African Development Bank has approved a € 114 million loan to support Morocco’s inclusive and sustainable agriculture in rural areas within the frame of the country’s climate adaptation program focusing on better use of water resources in irrigation and soil conversion techniques.
The funding will enhance the resilience of Moroccan agriculture to the global warming, help create jobs in rural areas and support young people and women entrepreneurs in agriculture.
“More sustainable, resilient and inclusive agriculture is the AfDB’s priority”, said Mohamed El Azizi, the Bank’s director for North Africa, noting that the AfDB financial support will enable Morocco carry out its program seeking to develop a more efficient, more resilient and more sustainable production system with greater added value for the benefit of rural populations.
For his part, Achraf Hassan Tarsim, the Bank’s Country Manager for Morocco, said improving the efficiency & resilience of irrigated areas, promoting women agribusiness, supporting young entrepreneurs and training local farmers will open up new possibilities for small & medium-sized farms and improve the living conditions of rural populations.
Over the past fifty years, the African Development Bank has injected more than ten billion Euros in various Moroccan projects including the health, energy, water, transport, human development, agriculture and financial sectors.
