Dramatic increase in remittances from the Moroccan diaspora

Moroccans living abroad are the leading foreign exchange earners in the kingdom, alongside tourism and services, the automobile industry and the export of phosphates and derived products.

In the first five months of 2021, these Moroccans of the world transferred 36.34 billion dirhams (3.5 billion euros), up 50.2% compared to the first five months of 2020. This improvement contrasts sharply with the balance of the travel industry (tourism), which is down by 72%.

Aware of the contribution of Moroccans living abroad to the economy of the country, Morocco has put in place an extraordinary system to welcome its non-resident citizens. Thus, the return phase, from June 15 to September 15, 2021, should see 650,000 passengers and 180,000 vehicles crossing the Mediterranean to the kingdom from French and Italian ports.

For its part, Royal Air Maroc has set up an affordable fare structure with 97 euros roundtrip for a passenger traveling as a family of four, 120 euros roundtrip for a passenger traveling as a family of three and 150 euros (including tax) for a passenger traveling alone or with another person.
