King Mohammed VI, President Buhari resolved to carry out bilateral strategic projects, the Nigeria-Morocco Gas Pipeline

King Mohammed VI and President Muhammadu Buhari of Nigeria have expressed their shared determination to carry out, as soon as possible, the strategic projects between the two countries, particularly the Nigeria-Morocco Gas Pipeline and the creation of a fertilizer production plant in Nigeria.

This came during a phone talk that King Mohammed VI had this Sunday with the President of Nigeria Muhammadu Buhari, as announced by the Royal Office in a statement.

 

During these talks, the two Heads of State welcomed the positive dynamic in bilateral relations in all fields, since the Royal visit to Nigeria in December 2016 and that of President Buhari to Morocco, in June 2018, statement said.

 

The two leaders have expressed their shared determination to carry out, as soon as possible, the strategic projects between the two countries, particularly the Nigeria-Morocco Gas Pipeline and the creation of a fertilizer production plant in Nigeria, the Royal Office added.

 

the Moroccan-Nigerian off-shore on-shore gas pipeline will benefit 13 African countries and will also help Western African nations develop their gas exports to Europe, especially Mauritania and Senegal where significant gas assets have been discovered.

 

Actually, the gas pipeline’s benefits transcend channeling Nigerian gas to Morocco and Europe to promote trade, regional cooperation and energy diversification in West Africa.

 

As regards the fertilizer plant to be built in Nigeria by Morocco’s phosphate group OCP, the group said last Summer that it is forging ahead with the project and expects to complete it by 2024 along the fertilizer factories in Ghana, and Ethiopia.

 

The Nigeria plant, which is part of Morocco’s south-south cooperation approach that aims at addressing food security and developing agriculture in the continent, will produce up to 750,000 tons of ammonia and up to 1 million tons of fertilizers.

 

During the phone call, President Buhari thanked King Mohammed VI for the Kingdom’s support in the fight against terrorism and violent extremism, in particular through the training of Nigerian Imams at the Mohammed VI Institute for the Training of Imams, Mourchidines and Mourchidates.
