Tunisia: ISIS-enthusiast terror cell busted in Hammamet
Tunisia security forces nabbed in the city of Hammamet, Nabeul province, members of a terror cell, pledging allegiance to the Islamic state group (ISIS).
Security forces raided the house of the ringleader, a Tunisian man in his twenties, following an alert.
“The raid was launched following intelligence that the suspect threatened some security forces with terrorist attacks,” local radio station Mosaique FM reported.
The raid also reportedly allowed the law reinforcement forces to seize some military uniforms, an ISIS banner, a canister, Molotov bombs and knives.
The defendant revealed during his interrogation the names of four other members of the cell. They were all rounded up.
Tunisia has been under state of emergency since November 2015 following an attack on the presidential guard, where 12 agents were killed. The emergency has been since then extended many times.
Two other attacks had rocked the North African country same year, in March and June. Most victims were foreign tourists.
