Tunisian President vetoes issuance of diplomatic passports to MPs
Tunisian President has blocked the parliament plans to secure a diplomatic passport for members of the House of Representative.
House of Representatives member Nesrine Laamari of the national reforms commission has told local media Mosaique fm that the MPs are still waiting for their diplomatic passport.
The lawmaker also indicated that the office of President Kais Saied has blocked the issuance on the basis of provisions of article 40 on passports and travel documents of 1975.
The law does not grant lawmakers the right to hold a diplomatic passport (blue) issued by the foreign ministry. The interior ministry however can issue special passports (red) for lawmakers on mission abroad. They are however requested to return the travel document at the end of the mission.
Under the law, only the country’s leader, the two vice-presidents and chairpersons of parliamentary groups are entitled to the diplomatic passport.
