Morocco uses satellite technology to curb slums

Morocco has declared 59 cities slum-free as it continues to encourage real-estate developers to invest in low-cost housing, said housing minister Nezha Bouchareb.

Morocco has also been using satellite technology to monitor and curb the expansion of some remaining shanty towns, she told MPs.

However, she noted, much remains to be done to make housing available for Morocco’s growing middle class.

So far, some 278,000 households who were former shanty dwellers benefited from proper housing under a program to remove improper housing in 85 cities.
